Declined SRD Status
Declined SRD status means SASSA did not approve your SRD R370 result for a specific month. First confirm the month, then read the exact reason, match it to the closest appeal reason, and appeal only when you disagree with the decision.
Check Why Your SRD Was Declined
Start with the month and the reason. Then use the matching guide before you appeal.
If you disagree with a declined month, act quickly. Official appeal information gives a 30-day appeal period, up to a maximum of 90 days. Also, keep access to the cellphone number linked to your SRD application because the appeal process may send a PIN.
Match Your Declined SRD Reason
Use the cards below to match the wording on your SRD result with the closest appeal reason in the official appeal process.
What Declined SRD Status Means
It applies to one month
SRD status changes by month. Therefore, a declined result for one month does not mean every month has failed.
The reason decides the next step
Read the reason before you appeal. For example, an income reason needs different checks from an identity, UIF or NSFAS reason.
For a broader explanation of why SRD months get declined, read why an SRD application may be declined.
The appeal wording can look different
Your status result explains why SASSA declined the month. However, the appeal process asks why you disagree with that decision.
Your SRD phone number matters
The appeal process may send a PIN or OTP to the cellphone number linked to your SRD application. Fix the phone issue first if you lost access to that number.
What to Do After SRD Is Declined
1. Confirm the exact month
Look at the month shown with the declined result. Because each month can have a different outcome, do not apply one decline reason to every month.
2. Read the decline reason
The reason may mention income, identity verification, UIF, NSFAS, IRP5, an existing SASSA grant, age, payroll, pension, facility, SETA, debt relief or another support record.
3. Use the matching reason guide
Next, select the guide above that matches your exact reason. It explains what the reason means, what to check, and when an appeal may make sense.
4. Appeal if the decision is wrong
Lodge an appeal for that specific month if you believe the declined decision is wrong. If more than one month is declined, handle each month separately.
5. Keep proof for the month
Finally, keep proof that matches the month you are appealing. Useful proof may include bank statements, letters, dates, employer confirmation, NSFAS status, UIF status or other documents that show the record was wrong or did not apply to that month.
Common Examples by Decline Type
Income, deposits or money detected
Means income source identified can point to income or financial activity for that month. If you disagree, the matching appeal reason may be no_alternative_income_source.
Identity or personal details failed
Identity verification failed can point to a mismatch in ID details, name and surname, phone access, e-KYC or biometric verification. After you fix the issue, the matching appeal reason may be identity_verification_fixed.
Employment, tax or government records found
UIF registered, IRP5 registered and government payroll registered are different employment or payroll-related reasons. Use the exact wording shown before choosing not_uif_registered, not_irp5_registered or not_gov_payroll_registered.
Funding, internship or stipend record found
NSFAS registered points to student-funding data. Meanwhile, SETA intern points to a skills programme, internship, learnership or stipend record.
Grant, pension, age or facility reason shown
Existing SASSA grant, outside qualifying age, government employee pension and government facility are separate decline reasons. Match the exact reason to the closest appeal reason before lodging an appeal.
Relief-support record found
Farmer relief, spaza shop relief, sport relief and debt relief usually point to support or assistance records outside SRD. If the record is wrong, outdated or did not apply to the declined month, check the matching reason guide before appealing.
Before You Appeal a Declined SRD Month
Why the Appeal Option May Not Show
The selected month is not declined
Appeal steps are for declined or rejected months. In contrast, pending, approved, referred and processing results usually do not have an appeal action for that month.
The phone number does not match
The appeal portal uses the phone number linked to your SRD application. Update your SRD phone number first if the number is wrong, lost or unavailable.
The month is outside the appeal window
The portal may not allow a normal appeal if too much time has passed since the declined result. Therefore, do not wait once you decide to appeal.
The official portal is temporarily unavailable
Try again later with a stable connection if the page does not load or does not send a PIN.
What Not to Do After SRD Is Declined
Do not appeal without reading the reason
A blind appeal is easier to get wrong. Instead, read the exact declined reason first, then choose the appeal reason that best explains why you disagree.
Do not change banking details to fix a declined month
Banking details affect payment routing for approved months. They usually do not fix a declined month. Handle a declined month through the decline reason and appeal process.
Do not assume one declined month cancels everything
SRD is monthly. Another month may still be approved, pending or referred even if one month is declined.
Do not pay for appeal help
Be careful of anyone who asks for money, your PIN, your banking login or your ID photo while promising to fix a declined SRD status. Also read the SRD scam warning guide if someone is pressuring you.
If You Still Cannot Match the Reason
Check the wording again
Small wording differences matter. For example, UIF registered, IRP5 registered and government payroll registered are separate reasons, not the same issue.
Use the closest reason guide
Choose the guide that matches the main record mentioned in your status result, such as income, UIF, NSFAS, identity, age, payroll or an existing grant.
Ask through official support routes
Use SASSA contact details if you cannot identify which record caused the decline. Then keep any reference numbers or written replies.

Declined SRD Status FAQs
Does declined mean I am declined forever?
No. SRD is assessed monthly. A declined result usually applies only to that specific month.
Can I appeal a declined SRD month?
Yes, if you disagree with the decision. Appeal the specific declined month and use the appeal reason that best matches why you believe the decision is wrong.
Do I need to appeal each declined month?
Yes. Handle each declined month separately if more than one month is declined and you disagree with each decision.
Why is the appeal reason different from the decline reason?
The decline reason explains what the status result detected. Meanwhile, the appeal reason explains why you believe the decision needs review.
Do I need my SRD phone number to appeal?
Yes. The appeal portal may send a PIN or OTP to the cellphone number linked to your SRD application.
Should I pay someone to fix a declined status?
No. Do not pay anyone who promises approval, payment release or a fixed status. Instead, use official SRD routes only.
What if I do not recognise the decline reason?
Check the exact wording again on your SRD status result. Then compare the main record mentioned in the wording with the reason cards on this page.
Can changing banking details fix a declined month?
Usually no. Banking details affect payment routing for approved months. A declined month needs the decline-reason and appeal steps if the decision is wrong.
