SASSA SRD Appeal
A SASSA SRD appeal is used when your SRD R370 status was declined for a specific month and you believe the decision is wrong. The same official appeal portal is also used to check SRD appeal status after you have already submitted an appeal.
Lodge an Appeal or Check Appeal Status
Use the official appeal portal for both actions. Appeal a declined month first if you believe the decision is wrong. Later, return to the same portal to check appeal status.
If you believe a declined SRD month is wrong, you have the right to appeal. The official appeal information says appeals may be lodged within 30 days, but not exceeding 90 days, after the declined decision.
How to Check SRD Appeal Status
To check your SRD appeal status, go to the official appeal portal at https://srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals/appeal, enter your ID number and SRD cellphone number, complete the PIN step, then open the month you already appealed.
1. Open the official SRD appeal portal
Use the official appeal portal URL: https://srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals/appeal. This is the same page used to lodge an appeal and check an appeal status.
2. Enter your South African ID number
Type the 13-digit South African ID number of the SRD applicant. Check the digits carefully before sending the PIN.
3. Enter the SRD application cellphone number
Enter the cellphone number used to submit your SRD application. The PIN is linked to this number, so a different number may not work.
4. Send and enter the PIN
Click send PIN, wait for the SMS, then enter the PIN in the portal. Do not share the PIN with anyone.
5. Open the month you already appealed
After OTP verification, the portal shows months connected to appeal action. Open the month you already appealed, then check whether the appeal is still pending, approved, dismissed or showing another outcome.
6. If your appealed month is not showing
Make sure you used the same ID number and SRD cellphone number used for the appeal. If the month was never appealed, it may still need a new appeal instead of an appeal-status check.

How to Lodge a SASSA SRD Appeal
To lodge a SASSA SRD appeal, open the official appeal portal, enter your ID number and SRD cellphone number, complete the PIN step, open the declined month, choose the matching appeal reason and apply.
1. Check the declined month first
Confirm the exact SRD month that was declined. Each declined month must be handled separately.
2. Open the official appeal portal
Go to https://srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals/appeal, then enter your ID number and the cellphone number used for your SRD application.
3. Complete the PIN step
Send the PIN, enter the PIN in the portal, and wait for the month list to load.
4. Open the declined month
Select the declined month you want to appeal. Pending and approved months normally do not appear as appealable months.
5. Choose the correct appeal reason
Choose the appeal reason that matches the decline reason. For example, if the decline reason says means_income_source_identified, the closest appeal reason is usually no_alternative_income_source.
6. Apply and check appeal status later
Submit the appeal and return to the same portal later to check whether the appeal is pending or has an outcome.
Match Your Decline Reason to the Appeal Reason
The SRD status result shows why the month was declined. The appeal portal asks you to choose a response reason. Use the cards below before you apply.
Quick SRD Appeal and Status Facts
If You Cannot Receive the Appeal OTP
Check the number linked to your SRD application
The appeal portal uses the cellphone number linked to your SRD application. If you enter a different number, the OTP or PIN may not work.
Update the number if it is lost or inactive
If the old number is lost, inactive or no longer yours, use the phone-number guide before trying the appeal process again.
Use a number you control
Your SRD phone number affects appeals, verification, banking and communication. Do not rely on a strangerβs number.
Why a Month May Not Let You Appeal
The month is not declined
Approved and pending months normally do not appear as appealable months in the appeal portal. A referred month usually needs verification before it can become a final result.
The declined month is too old
If you try to appeal an old declined month, the portal may show that the appeal cutoff date has expired. This means the normal appeal window has passed.
The phone number does not match
The portal uses the phone number linked to your SRD application. If the number is wrong, lost or no longer active, fix phone access first.
The official portal may be temporarily unavailable
If the appeal page fails to load or does not send a PIN, try again later using a stable connection and the correct official route.
After You Check the Appeal Status
If the appeal is still pending
Wait and check again later. The official appeal information says applicants are informed electronically within 60β90 days from lodging the appeal.
If the appeal is approved
Check the same SRD month again for approval and payment information. Use the approved SRD status guide if you need to understand what happens after approval.
If the approved appeal has no pay date
Use the approved but no pay date guide. An approved appeal may still need payment scheduling before a pay date appears.
If the appeal is dismissed
The declined result remains for that month. Later months must still be checked separately because each SRD month can have a different outcome.

SASSA SRD Appeal FAQs
How do I check my SRD appeal status?
Go to https://srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals/appeal, enter your ID number and SRD cellphone number, complete the PIN step, then open the month you already appealed to view the appeal status.
Is SRD appeal status check done on the same portal?
Yes. The same official appeal portal is used to lodge an SRD appeal and to check SRD appeal status after OTP verification.
Why is the appeal reason different from the decline reason?
The status result explains why the month was declined. The appeal portal asks you to choose a response reason that explains why you disagree with that decline.
Do I need access to my SRD phone number to appeal?
Yes. The appeal portal may require an OTP or PIN sent to the cellphone number linked to your SRD application.
Why can I not appeal an old declined month?
The normal appeal window may have passed. The portal may show an appeal cutoff message when the declined month is too old to appeal normally.
Do I need to appeal each declined month?
Yes. SRD results are assessed monthly, so each declined month must be appealed separately if you disagree with the decision.
How long does an SRD appeal take?
The official appeal information says the Independent Tribunal informs applicants electronically within 60β90 days from lodging the appeal.
Do I need to pay for an SRD appeal?
No. Be careful of anyone asking for money to appeal, speed up, unlock or guarantee SRD approval.
